Alternative Oak Frame - Non Load Bearing

Alternative Oak Frame – Non Load Bearing

With our oak frame option you get the look of an oak frame building, but not a structural Oak frame. The main structure would be achieved by using one of the above frames or one the client specifies, the Oak A frames would then be produced and fitted to the inside of the frame, with mortice and tenon joints, dowels to hold in place, and any diagonal bracing required ( more for aesthetic appearance ) we can accommodate for any design the client wishes to use. How many A Frames needed ( as its not structural ) is limitless.

This frame does overcome the problems that can occur with oak frames:

  • Movement
  • Cost
  • Damage to the finish product ( water stains ) etc
  • Flexibility due to structural needs

Larson Truss Frame

Larson Truss Frame

A Larson truss is an Canadian design and commonly used over here, however the more eco friendly the new propriety’s are becoming there is more demand for a high insulated Frame. In certain circumstances the Larson truss is a very cost effective alternative.

Built to your requirements its a truss that spans from floor slab to facia board height and is installed @ 400 – 600c and then clad externally with a 9mm OSB/Smart ply and 25 mm counter batten. These trusses can be built from 200 – 600mm giving you a void to full fill with insulation of your choice.

Glulam Portal Frames

Glulam Portal Frames

Fast becoming one of our specialist areas.

We can create a glulam portal frame using glulaminated beams as the main support structure, with connection details to suit your specific design.

Glulam beams are then on show externally and internally giving the whole frame a very bespoke and unique look. Please contact us for this bespoke way of building with timber.

Roofing

Roofing

Most of our roofs are cut roofs and will be individually designed to the current project however typically :

  • 200 x 45mm Graded treated softwood rafters @ 400 – 600c
  • Glulam or steel Ridge beams
  • 9mm OSB/smart ply laid externally over the rafters
  • 25mm Counter batten
  • In some cases we will lay a Tyveck moisture barrier for water proofing the frames under the counter batten. Giving you a 90% water tight frame before the roofers are on site!

Moisture Barriers

Moisture Barriers

There are a few different moisture barriers we can supply for your frame, above we only specify one. Below are a few examples

  • Standard Moisture rap
  • Reflective moisture rap giving you a U value of 0.70 W/m2/k
  • Fire rap
  • Non shrinkage rap.
